Dorothy M. Johnson Dorothy M. Johnson, 91 went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 7, 2016. Celebration of Life service will be at 10:30am Monday, September 12, 2016 at Bethany Lutheran Church, Hurley with burial at the IOOF Cemetery, Gregory. Visitation with family present will be from 2-4pm Sunday at the Hofmeister Jones Funeral Home, Parker. Dorothy Marie Knittel was born on January 15, 1925 at Dallas, SD to Fred and Mary (Wagner) Knittel. She grew up in the Dallas area where she graduated from Dallas High School in 1943. She attended Southern State Teachers College in Springfield, SD receiving her teaching certificate, later on earning her bachelors degree from Huron College. On April 25, 1947 she was united in marriage to Virgil M. Womeldorf at Dallas. She taught a variety of grade levels as they moved from Sinai, Iroquois, Wessington Springs and Parker where she made lifelong relationships with students and teachers. In the fall of 1975 she lost her husband to a sudden heart attack. On August 12, 1978 she was united in marriage to Juel Johnson. They lived on the farm near Hurley and later moved into Parker. They enjoyed traveling, spending winters in Arizona, and trips to Pierre while Juel was in the state legislature. She also served on the State Board of Cosmetology. Juel died in 2008. Family and friends were Dorothy's delight. She liked to play bridge, coffee with her friends, attend ladies aid, watch sports events, and spending time with family. She always enjoyed visiting with grandchildren and great grandchildren and would always end the visit with "stop in sometime now." Grateful for having shared her life are her 3 children, Dennis (Flo) Womeldorf, Rapid City, SD, Jonda (Mark) Jensen, Beresford, SD, and Lynette Womeldorf, Kearney, NE; grandchildren Tera Krull, Brett (Mandi) Womeldorf, Zach (Amanda) Jensen, Amanda (Brad) Hyronimus, and Rachael (Ryan) Bak; great grandchildren Tyler Womeldorf, Dylan Schneider, Boston Jensen, McCoy Jensen, Wrenley Jensen, Mila Jensen, Owen Hyronimus, Nora Hyronimus, Levi Hyronimus, Phoenix Bak, and Hadley Bak. Also celebrating Dorothy's life are Juel's children, Patricia (David) Meyer, Brookings, SD, Cynthia (Kevin) Brown, Vermillion, SD, Rebecca (Daniel) Blue, Sioux Falls, and Paul (Lisa) Johnson, Hurley; grandchildren, Andrea (Brian) Schmidt, Scott (Taylor) Meyer, John (Paige) Meyer, Paul Meyer, Ellen Brown, Jack Brown, Ian (Paige) Blue, Julia Blue, Elliot Blue, Mason Blue, Jennifer Johnson, Jill Johnson, and Jay Johnson; great grandchildren, Ella Schmidt, Ruby Schmidt, Amelia Meyer, Ingrid Meyer, and Margot Meyer. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Virgil and Juel, 4 sisters and a brother. Memorials maybe directed to the American Cancer Society.
