Al Roeder, 87 of Sioux Falls, formerly of Parker, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on May 19, 2026. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at St. Katherine Drexel Catholic Church in Sioux Falls. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM Monday, May 25, 2026 at Heritage Funeral Home, Sioux Falls, with a Scripture Service beginning 7:00PM. Arrangements provided by Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home.
Alvin N. Roeder was born on December 17, 1938 in Parkston, SD to Clarence and Wilhemine (Mayer) Roeder. He was the oldest of 4 children. He graduated from Fulton High School in 1957 and attended Southern State Teachers College for his teaching degree, graduating in 1961.
On August 29, 1959, Al was united in marriage to Gayle Mahoney. To this union they had 5 children. Al started his teaching career in Nebraska and then the family moved to Parker where he coached and taught from 1964-1968. Al then made the career change to becoming an insurance agent for American Family Insurance. He served the community for 42 years, retiring in 2010.
Al was a very active member of the Parker community. He helped start the Parker Economic Development board. In the summer you could find Al out golfing at the ParMar golf course. Al also enjoyed the annual Turner County Crow Hunt, hunting in it for 33 years.
Al's faith was very important to him. While in Parker they attended St. Christina's Catholic Church where he served on Church Council and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. When they moved to Sioux Falls, they attended St Katherine Drexel.
Al will be missed. He is survived by his wife of 67 years Gayle; children Brenda (Steve) Schulz, Mark (Robin) Roeder, Michael (Wendy) Roeder, Barbara (Jason) Cass, and Lynelle Roeder; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; sister Shirley Brown; sisters-in-law Ruth Roeder and Mary Roeder; nieces, nephews and friends.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Bill and John, and brother-in-law Bob Brown.
