Bette Kidd, 86 of Sioux Falls, passed away on August 4, 2026 at the Sanford Foundation Cottage, Sioux Falls, surrounded by her family. Memorial Mass will be at 11:00 AM Monday, August 10, 2026 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Sioux Falls. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM. Arrangements provided by Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home.
Bette was born on August 22, 1939, in Ethan, South Dakota, the daughter of Maggie Roth and Albert Schumacher. She grew up alongside two sisters and one brother. On September 9, 1956, Bette married the love of her life, Ken Kidd. Together, they settled in Sioux Falls, where they shared a beautiful marriage spanning nearly 70 years and raised their family.
Dedicating her life to the care of others, Bette worked for several years as a compassionate nursing assistant in multiple long-term care facilities. Her open heart extended beyond her career; for many years, Bette and Ken served as dedicated foster parents, providing a safe, loving, and nurturing home to many children in need.
Bette’s ultimate passion and greatest joy was her family. She adored spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of family memories, especially the cherished times spent camping and taking unforgettable family trips to the Black Hills.
She is survived by her loving husband, Ken Kidd; her children, Debbie Devitt, Lisa (Curt) Frazeur, and Kevin (Christy Lottman) Kidd; her 15 cherished grandchildren, Jeremy Kidd, Michael Bucholz, Elizabeth Bucholz, Derek (Ana) Dicus, Travis Dover, Kayla Dover, Kylee (Joe) Landeen, Ashleigh Landon, Jonathan (Emily Stahl) Landon, Erich (Heather) Frazeur, Steven (Marisa) Cockerham, Jacob Landon, Jordan Kidd, Parker Kidd, and Preston Kidd; 22 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Bette was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Laurie Mahoney; her sister, Carol Schumacher; her parents, Maggie Roth and Albert Schumacher; and her parents-in-law, Fanny and Earl Kidd.
