Chuck Wirth, 72 of Hurley, passed away unexpectedly on November 25, 2025 at the Abrazo Arrowhead Hospital in Glendale, AZ. A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00-4:00 PM Sunday, January 18, 2026, at the Hurley American Legion, Hurley. Arrangements provided by Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home.
Charles “Chuck” Wirth was born on November 18, 1953 in Sioux Falls, SD to Ralph and Marilyn (Stoddard) Wirth. He is the oldest of 6 children. He graduated from Hurley High School in 1972 and went on to receive his Masters in Agronomy from South Dakota State University.
Chuck worked as a seed sales rep for many years, last working for RobSeedCo. He spent several years as a caretaker for multiple lawns in town including a few churches. Chuck served on the Zion Lutheran Church Board and the SDSU Southeastern Research Farm Board. He managed and cared for the museum in Hurley.
Chuck was a loyal SDSU Jackrabbit. He attended almost all the home events and was a season ticket holder for both basketball teams and the football team. He went on both trips to Frisco when the Jack’s football team won in 2023 and 2024. Chuck also attended Viborg-Hurley sporting events regularly as well. When not busy, he liked to garden and bake, and volunteered at the Lund Theatre in Viborg.
At Hot Hurley Nights in 2022, Chuck was reunited with his former classmate, Julie Koller. The spark was instant and were later married on July 27, 2024. Chuck and Julie were able to travel and spend time with both their families in the short time they had together. Chuck was a devoted dad and grandpa.
He is survived by his wife Julie; children Chas of Sioux Falls and Jaime (Ryan) O’Dell of Viborg; grandchildren Lyric, Zayden, Ashur, Bentley and Braxton; mother Marilyn Wirth of Viborg; siblings Rich (Diane) of Hurley, Gordon (Sandy) of Sioux Falls, Ed of Viborg, Laurie (Mark) Leber of Rapid City, and Jerry (Robin) of Yankton; step-children Ryan (Rebecca) Christopherson of Fallbrook, CA, and Mollie (Brent) Karlicek of Phoenix; step-grandchildren Emma, Olivia, Sophie, Wilson, and Jackson; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Chuck is preceded in death by his father Ralph Wirth
