Curt Nelson

Curt Nelson, 80 of Marion, passed away on September 15, 2026 at the Tieszen Memorial Home, Marion. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, September 19, 2026 at the First Church of God in Marion. In Lieu of Flowers, memorials may be directed to Children of Promise. Arrangements provided by Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home.

Curtis Clare Nelson was born July 18th, 1946 and passed away at the Tieszen Memorial Home on September 15th, 2026.

He was the only child of Edwin and Ella Nelson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He attended Linwood Elementary and graduated from Brandon High School in 1964. Curt married Carol Ihnen in 1968, and they were blessed with three children; Todd, Chad and Courtney. Carol passed away in 1985 and Curt was remarried to Ruth Anderson in 1990. Together they blended their family of 5 children and resided in Marion, SD.

Curt enjoyed his work as a carpenter for 25 years and then finished his career as a welder up until his retirement in 2005. From this training, Curt loved a good home improvement project. He completed multiple home renovations, custom decking and other countless craftsmen projects. Curt also had a love for cars. He could often be found taking a ride on country roads and later in life known for trips around town on his scooter. More than all of this, the love for his grandchildren was unmatched. Through retirement, Ruth and Curt would travel to and from their children’s homes trying to make it to as many birthdays and events as possible.

Curt’s faith for the Lord was strong and helped him overcome many difficult struggles and losses. First Church of God was a special place and held special people that Curt enjoyed fellowship with multiple days a week.

He is proceeded in death by his first wife Carol, first son Todd and his parents Edwin and Ella. Those that were blessed to have shared their lives with him are his wife, Ruth, their children; Jeff (Teresa) Anderson of Austin, MN, Chad (Sharon) Nelson of Melbourne, KY, Bryan (Rachel) Anderson of George, IA, Mark (Melissa) Anderson of Parker, SD and Courtney (Leaf) Greene of Dakota Dunes, SD, 18 grandchildren; Aleesha, Caden, Joseph, Thorr, Benjamin, Hannah, Grace, Landon, Noah, Elijah, Ian, Zach, Ruthie, Ella, Lucy, Victor, Dylan, Dane and 3 great grandchildren; Aspen, SaylorMae and Kyson.
