Dixon Carr Swanson was born on March 29. 1952 to Helen (Seymour) and Joseph “Jay” Swanson, in Bismark, ND. Dixon grew up with his 4 brothers, Lanny, Kenny, Dean, and John and 1 sister, Mary. He graduated from Aberdeen High School in Aberdeen, SD. Throughout his life he worked at various jobs and was working security at Grand Falls Casino before his retirement. He married the love of his life, Lucille “Lucy” Baumgard in 1972. Dixon and Lucy raised three children together, living in Lennox, SD and Parker, SD. Shawn was born in 1973, Shelley in 1976, and Joseph “Joe” in 1980. They also had 15 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Dixon was a man whose life was filled with love, laughter, and music; guided by hard work, loyalty, kindness, and faith. He believed in working hard, being reliable, and doing right by others. Dixon was a loyal Minnesota Vikings fan, loved fishing, and spending time with family. Dixon also was a lover of all kinds of music and especially loved Elvis. He could often be found dancing with Lucy in their living room, their kids looking on, being witness to what true sole mates looked like.

Dixon will be remembered by all that loved him as a man that loved with his whole heart, enjoyed the simple things, and showed up when he was needed. He will also be remembered for the sense of humor and mischievous side he shared with those he loved, from playing that one certain song for Lucy that always made tell him to shut it off or making goofy faces with his grandkids and great grandkids.

Dixon is survived by his sister, Mary; his daughter, Shawn Neiwald; his grandchildren, Jordan, Sadi, Star, and Xenja; and great-grandchildren, Axtyn, KarmaLynn, Harrison, Nylah, Octavia, Aaryn, and Zaydien. He is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Shelley (Steve) Clark; and grandchildren, Taylor, Alex, Thomas, and Logan. He is also survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Joseph (Angela) Swanson; and grandchildren, Haley, Jasmine, Levi, Julie, Kayne, Brodie, and Athan.

Dixon was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lucy; his parents, Joseph and Helen; his stepfather, Richard Nehls; his parents-in-law, Lester and Dorothy Baumgard; his brothers, Lanny, Kenny, Dean, and John; and his son-in-law, Timothy Niewald.
