Janice Ortman

Janice Ortman, 85 of Marion, passed away on May 10, 2026 at Ava's House in Sioux Falls. Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, May 14, 2026 at the First Church of God in Marion, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. The service will be broadcasted on her obituary page. Janice Ortman was born November 1, 1940, in a little house in Parker SD to Clarence and Lulu Hagen. She graduated from Parker High School in 1959. She then entered LPN school. In 1961 she was set up on a blind date with Albert Ortman. They later eloped on December 28, 1962. They then moved to the family farm and were blessed with three children.

Janice worked as an LPN for many years before pursuing her RN degree. Throughout her years as a nurse, she worked at Sioux Valley and various Nursing Homes in the area until her retirement. Caring for the elderly was her passion.

Janice cherished time spent with her family, especially when it meant gathering around for cards and games. Known for her playful sense of humor, Janice delighted in being a bit of a prankster-particularly when it came to her grandchildren, who will always remember her with smiles and laughter.

When Janice was not cheering on her beloved Vikings and Twins you would catch her playing computer word games.

Janice was a faithful member of the First Church of God for over 40 years.

Grateful to have shared in her life are her children Sandra (Wendell)Weeldreyer, Karla (Jerry) Zuehlke and Craig (Michelle) Ortman. Six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Four bonus grandchildren and eleven bonus great grandchildren. One brother Carnel Hagen and numerous cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband Albert Ortman, Son-in Law Byron Thomas, Brother Roger Hagen, Sister Phyllis Hagen and Sister-in-Law’s Norman Hagen and Delilah Ortman.
