Jeannie Johnson

Jeannie Johnson, 69 of Viborg, passed away on March 29, 2026. A Celebration of Life will be held from 4:00-7:00 Pm Friday, April 10, 2026 at the Hurley Fire Hall, Hurley. Wear your favorite sports attire! Arrangements provided by Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home.

Jeannie (Peterson) Johnson was born on August 11th, 1956 to Evert and Phyllis (Wilson) Peterson. She was the third daughter of eight to join this union. She passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, March 29th.

Jeannie graduated from Hurley High School in 1974. After high school she attended Stewart’s School of Cosmetology and opened up a small salon in Viborg after she graduated. She later started a career with Dakota Telecommunications for several years and has spent the last nine years working at the Pioneer Memorial Assisted Living in Viborg.

Jeannie married Phillip Johnson on April 22nd, 1981. They were blessed with one son, James, in June of 1982. They lived in rural Viborg until Jeannie recently moved into Viborg.

Jeannie was a Packers football fan and a Cubs baseball fan. Please join us for a casual celebration of life on Friday, April 10th from 4-7 pm at the Hurley Fire Hall, 301 Main St., Hurley. Wear your favorite sports attire!

Grateful for having shared her life were her sons James (Michelle) Johnson of Harrisburg and their children Kylee, Tyler, Evan and Rhiannon Johnson; Mark (Kristi) Johnson of Viborg and their children Brandi (Tony) McCuen, Derek (Steph) Johnson and Jessica (Grant) Rahm, daughters Paula Whetsel of Sioux Falls and her children, Danielle (Marquis Jr) Bolden and Keshia Whetsel; Kristy (Jason Bute) Lee of Harrisburg and her son Chris (Jana) Anderson; 7 sisters, Marlys (Dick) Andersen, Parker, Debbie Peterson, Chancellor, Mary (Burnell) Olesen, Hurley, Dianne Peterson, Hurley, Marlene (Terry) Davidson, Lennox, Linda (Tom) Nelson, Hurley and Susan (Tim) Wurtz, Hurley; her great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.
