LeRoy Lonning

LeRoy C. Lonning, 87 died Sunday, August 9, 2026 at the Tieszen Memorial Home in Marion. Funeral services will be at 11:00am Friday, August 21, 2026 at the Bethesda Lutheran Church, Marion with visitation an hour prior to the service. Burial will be at 2:00pm with military honors at Hills of Rest Cemetery in Sioux Falls, SD. Arrangements by Hofmeister Jones Funeral Home.

LeRoy Chris Lonning was born on August 8, 1939 at Viborg, SD to Theodore and Verda (Hansen) Lonning. He grew up on a farm in the Parker area where he graduated from Parker High School in 1957. He served in the US Army from 1961-1964. After his discharge from the service moved back to South Dakota where he was united in marriage to Brenda Jaqua on December 10, 1966. Over the years they lived in Viborg, Crooks and eventually Sioux Falls where he was employed by GTA Ag Cooperative where he drove truck and hauled grain. His wife Brenda died in 2013. On May 14th of 2015 he was united in marriage to Miriam (Larsen) Haase and they lived in Parker. Since 2023 he has been a resident of the Tieszen Home. Over the years he was a member of the American Legion, while in Viborg a member of the volunteer fire department, and the Crooks Optimist Club.

Grateful for having shared his life are his 2 children, Trent and Shelly Olson, both of Sioux Falls; 9 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; Miriam Haase, Parker; a brother Larry and sisters, Judy Aagard, Janice Aagard and Vonda Hovaldt. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Brenda in 2013, son Troy in 2010 and infant son Kevin, a sister Marlys and a granddaughter Erika in 1998.
