Marilyn Campbell, 88, of Viborg, South Dakota passed away Wednesday night, December 17, 2025.

Marilyn Frances Beck was born July 3, 1937, in Hinton, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Cleo Campbell on October 25, 1952 (at the age of 15). They started a family in LeMars, Iowa. In the early 60’s they moved to Audubon, Iowa. Besides raising a household of six young children, Marilyn worked as a cashier at the grocery store. In 1976, the couple moved to Viborg, South Dakota, where Marilyn took over ownership of Buckstead’s Café. She was an excellent cook, so that seemed the perfect fit. After her kids were all grown up, she realized her whole life was devoted to caring for others. She then decided to sell the café and went to work at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Centerville, where she remained for around twenty years before retiring.

Marilyn loved to cook, read, crochet, and knit. She was also an avid puzzler. She was a trooper on all the camping trips and vacations that the family went on with the old camper. Marilyn’s family meant everything to her. She proudly bragged and showed off pictures of kids and grandkids any chance she got. When anyone visited her, she would always have something to show them that would make them laugh. Her love and compassion for others will be long remembered.

Survivors include six children: Gary (Teresa) Campbell of Hot Springs, SD; Doug Campbell of Wellman, IA; Curt (Terry) Campbell of Noonan, GA; Marsha (Les) Imes of Tea, SD; Linda (Brent) Richards of Albany, MN; Teresa (Mark) Peterson of Parker, SD; 25 grandchildren and 51 great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Donna Van Hoff of Cherokee, IA; Janet (Bob) Ross of Sioux City, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Harriett Beck of Le Mars, IA; husband, Cleo Campbell; infant son, Robert Lynn Campbell (Jan 4, 1959 – Feb 12, 1959); grandchildren, Aric Campbell and Ryan Campbell; daughter-in-law, Tae Campbell; sister, Judy Mullally; brothers-in-law, Mike Mullally and Tom Van Hoff.
